Let’s shorewallk with an artist’s eye on the scenery!
\*\*NOTE\*\* This is a repeat of the same walk held Nov 2021.
The High Bridge, Harlem River, and the surrounding area have inspired artists over the years. On this moderate-paced, guided walk, we will compare what we see today to how artists captured the places in the past.
START: Arrive by 10am to use restroom. Walk begins at 10:15am, prompt.
END: About 2:30pm'ish, approximate
MEETING LOCATION: George Washington Bridge bus terminal, seating area on top floor. Fort Washington Ave between 178th & 179th Streets in upper Manhattan.
DIRECTIONS: Take A train to 175th, exit platform toward uptown end, walk past the token booth, proceed up a set of stairs that leads to a pedestrian tunnel. The tunnel goes directly into the bus terminal. When at bus terminal, go up escalators/stairs to top-floor seating area. There are restrooms on the top floor.
END LOCATION: Same as meeting location.
DISTANCE: 5.5 miles approx.
PACE: Moderate walking pace. This is NOT a fast-paced hike, though walkers should be able to keep up with group and be comfortable with hills and stairs. This is a guided walk.
TERRAIN: City sidewalks and paved park paths, with a short stretch on dirt path. We will walk across the High Bridge. Route includes hills and stairs.
BATHROOMS are at meeting location, at 3.5 mile mark, and at end location.
BRING your own water/snack as we will not stop for purchases.
WEATHER POLICY: It can be windy on the High Bridge, where we will be spending time. A wind-breaking layer is recommended. In case of iffy weather, hike leader will post a comment on this page by 8am on day of hike. As always, check the forecast and dress for the weather.

We'll keep a quick pace, about 3 mph. We'll walk a counter-clockwise loop, at a brisk pace, going through favorite locations (east on 59th street w/ monuments, The Pond, Gapstow Bridge, The Dairy, Baltow, uptown on the east side, brief bathroom stop at Conservatory Garden, North Woods, The Ramble, Bethesda Terrace. Returning to Columbus Circle. Please dress for cold weather. Bring water. Approximately 6 miles, 3-4 hours, pace: 2.5 - 3 mph
We meet at 10AM at Chelsea Piers (23rd St), right outside of the restrooms on the north side of the piers. Take the A/C/E, 1 or F train to 23rd Street and head west towards the Hudson River. Allow 15 to 20 minutes to walk to the start depending on which train you are taking.
We proceed north along the Hudson River into Riverside Park. We will take a 10-minute break in Riverside Park at 70th Street where there are restrooms. We will then continue on the Riverside Park path along Cherry Walk (100th -125th) to Riverbank State Park at 138th Street. There are restrooms at the Riverbank facility. We'll enjoy the amazing views of the Hudson River and have lunch on the benches or grassy area.
From there, you can take a bus from 145th street/Riverbank or walk west one block to pick up the #1 train.
For those with extra energy, we will continue south on Riverside Drive to 72nd Street/Riverside Drive.
Bring: Water and lunch. We'll have lunch at the end of our walk in Riverbank State Park.

8 mile, easy pace walk.
Iconic Three Lakes, Three Parks in Queens walk from Forest Hills to downtown Flushing through Flushing Meadows Corona Park, the Queens Botanical Garden, and Kissena Park. May be adjusted a bit for current conditions, but we can still provide exercise (about 8 miles), history, companionship.
Meet: 9:45 am at Investors Bank on north side of Queens Boulevard. Take E,F,M or R to Continental/71st Avenue stop.
