Hike to Anthony's Nose -Hudson Highlands

Details

Anthony's Nose is a strenuous hike on part of the Appalachian Trail right across the Hudson from Bear Mountain. YOU MUST BE IN GOOD AEROBIC CONDITION FOR THIS HIKE. The trail can be steep and rocky and the guys like to hike quickly. The reward is a spectacular view of the Hudson River and the Bear Mountain Bridge.

Afterwards, if there is time, we can hike a nearby nature preserve that comprises 100 wooded acres on private land. There are 4 miles of very well marked trails, one of which runs along a rocky escarpment right on the river.

TRAIN FROM NYC:
We'll meet at the clock/information booth in the center of Grand Central at 9:15am. Please buy your roundtrip ticket to Manitou before meeting. We'll take the 9:45am Poughkeepsie-bound Metro North train to Manitou, arriving 11am. IMPORTANT! Only doors of one car open at Manitou, please ask a conductor when you board the train and sit near those doors (I think it's the last car). Return trains are at 3:25, 4:25, 5:25.

DRIVERS:
This hike starts and ends at the same trailhead. There's a few parking spots there. Here's the Google pin. https://goo.gl/maps/jbTHZxJhCR4dzfNn7 . IMPORTANT! it's about 30 mins walk to the train station. You don't have to meet us at the train, we'll walk to the trailhead parking and catch you around 11:45AM. The hike starts where you'll be parked.

FOOD:
There are NO restaurants or stores at the Manitou train station, so bring plenty of water and a hearty lunch. Bug spray is recommended to keep ticks away.
