Deploying Azure services using Azure Resource Manager from the CLI and templates

It’s easy to deploy Azure services using the portal or tools like Visual Studio! Still, as your application grows, it becomes increasingly important to understand how deployment works behind the scenes. Azure Resource Manager is the API layer that powers the construction, organization, and deletion of all services you deploy to Azure.
This session reviews how you can directly interact with the Azure Resource Manager using tools like the Azure CLI and Bicep templates. This session includes demos where both the CLI and a template are used both together and apart to perform identical deployments so you can compare the two options.
If you are a developer who wishes to automate the creation of resources in Azure using a shell script or template file, this session is for you! This session builds the skills to create Azure resources unattended using the tooling you evaluated as your preferred choice.

Sidney Andrews is a native of Richmond, VA, an Azure MVP, and a Microsoft Certified Trainer. Sidney has authored multiple Azure courses on Microsoft Learn, edX, and official Microsoft courseware. Lately, Sidney has focused on developer topics such as containers in Azure, Cosmos DB, .NET 6, and architectural design on Azure. Speakers:
Mark Gray
Mark is a Principle Program Manager at Microsoft and works in the Azure Deployment team. His team’s mission is to ensure that our customers primary interaction with Azure, typically an IaC tool/ language, such as Bicep, ARM Templates and Terraform is consistent, complete, and great. He and his team focus on making sure that Azure customers can be successful with Terraform. He has been working in the management space for his entire career. He started working with Microsoft first party technologies like Group Policy and PowerShell Desired State Configuration and then discovered the wonderful world of open source and has been hooked ever since.

Steven Ma
Steven is a Program Manager for the Deployments team in Microsoft Azure. He graduated from the University of Illinois, where he earned both his Master’s in Computer Science and Bachelor’s in Computer Science & Economics. His goal is to help people do more with Terraform on Azure and help solve the deepest pain points customers face in their current workflow.
