"Captivated me from the first chapter to the final page."—Reese Witherspoon

Vivid and compelling in its portrait of one woman’s struggle for fulfillment in a society pivoting between the traditional and the modern, The Henna Artist opens a door into a world that is at once lush and fascinating, stark and cruel.

Escaping from an abusive marriage, seventeen-year-old Lakshmi makes her way alone to the vibrant 1950s pink city of Jaipur. There she becomes the most highly requested henna artist—and confidante—to the wealthy women of the upper class. But trusted with the secrets of the wealthy, she can never reveal her own…

Known for her original designs and sage advice, Lakshmi must tread carefully to avoid the jealous gossips who could ruin her reputation and her livelihood. As she pursues her dream of an independent life, she is startled one day when she is confronted by her husband, who has tracked her down these many years later with a high-spirited young girl in tow—a sister Lakshmi never knew she had. Suddenly the caution that she has carefully cultivated as protection is threatened. Still she perseveres, applying her talents and lifting up those that surround her as she does.

“Eloquent and moving…Joshi masterfully balances a yearning for self-discovery with the need for familial love.”—Publishers Weekly

    Alice's Tea Cup, Chapter 2

I've always wanted to do afternoon tea and this seems like such a fun place to start!

I'll leave the RSVP for 5 people for now. Reservations for 6+ people, I'll need to call in and request, so if there are people on the waiting list we'll open it up!

  • Grit Bxng + Cocktails!

    9 E 16th St

Grit Bxng is a boxing studio with a full bar and themed nights!

    FROM THEIR [WEBSITE](https://www.gritbxng.com):
"GRIT trainers will take it from here to teach you the 6 GRIT BXNG punches and fighting stances. You’ll first warm up the body with dynamic and compound movements. You’ll be amped and prepared for 9 rounds of intervals as the music ramps up and the light show begins. And then you’re off, digging deep and working out."

They are currently running a special for a buy one class get one free but you need to use the classes within 30 days. The studio is very large and holds about 50- something people per class, but to stick with the goal of this group in creating meaningful friendships I'm going to keep the RSVP to 8 people.

    For $45 you get:
-One class + a credit on your account for a second class
    -Glove rental
    -Wraps (that you keep!)
-One free drink from their full bar

\*\*\*Just RSVP-ing **does not** guarantee you a spot! You must pay the $45 before you are guaranteed a spot. I'll work with my contact there to create an account for you (so I might message you for your email address). If you pay for a spot and no show- you wont be refunded. If there is someone on the waiting list who wants to buy your ticket thats a deal between you two!

\*\*\* To make sure we can get into the class we want (I was told they can fill up pretty quick even two weeks out) I'm going to close the RSVP two weeks before the actual class.

\*\*\*You must arrive 10 min early. If you've never done boxing before the wraps can be tricky!

If there is anything else I will let everyone know!
